been to ikea todayon the way home i just lost all power

i had pull up on hard sholder top off barton bridge

turned it off started again still miss fires so i crawled home on normal roads as i didnt fancy geting stuck on the m way i made it home after an 1 30 mins:( is there any way i can find out what up with it

 

its 97 gal 2.3 ghia lpg converted its now runds better onprt than lpg with this prob lem

If it runs better on petrol than lpg this would suggest an ignition problem. LPG stresses the ignition system much more than petrol, it needs a much higher voltage to jump the same gap on the spark plug. I would suggest you look very closely around the coils and HT leads etc. I would also suggest you avoid driving it on petrol whilst misfiring because you will be killing the catalytic converter due to flooding it with unburned fuel.

I think on the 2.3 you have 2 coils (no distributor) so if one has failed you'll be down to possibly 2 cylinders. The 2.3 isn't unknown for having low tension wiring problems, the fact that your runs better on petrol suggests HT problems. Follow the lead from the plug and you should find the coil attached to it. It's possible that either it will have another HT lead going to another plug or that indeed there's one coil per cylinder i.e. 4. I'm pretty sure it will be two coils on yours. Get another or double check the wiring / coil condition. Run the engine in the dark and see if you can see sparks jumping. If the coil is cracked, scrape along the crack with a knife to remove carbon, degrease it thoroughly, put in a domestic oven at 100 deg for a couple of hours to make sure it's dry and paint some epoxy resin such as araldite into the crack. Refit, run and test, make yourself a cuppa!

hi i i think some one has stolen the place where my spark plugs should go look like a diesel to me but i know its not

 

 

 

its funny it only seems to miss badly around 2000k then it seems to get over it and drive ok for a bit setting off is a nightmare feel like kangaroo juice

Take the Ford DOHC cover off and all will be revealled. On wifeys 2.3 Scorpio the low tension wiring was cracked and broken under the cover. Splice new cable in and all was well, you may have the same problem.

I had a similar problem with my 2.3 gal,,,,,,and it was the low tension cables to the pair of coils breaking up,,,,,,rewired and all is fine

 

 

johnb80 is correct u have a coil on top of a spark plug with an ht lead to another spark plug,,,,,,,,

hi again just took the covers off i have uppluged 1 and 3 no change i didnt know what to do with the black thing on 2 and 4 so i didnt touch it dont feel like i have lost a cylinder it misses at about 2000k to 3 k revs are up and down after the that it revs fine or fells it any do you think it might be a fuel blockage?

 

 

if feels like you running out of pet around 2 to 3 k

if it is that how would i rewire solder?

OOOOOHHH MY,,,,,,,,u have some work to do,,,,,,,,yes, soldering a new piece of wire in, is the best way and if possible heat shrink tube to protect the joint,,,,,at the very least fire proof pvc tape

its funny if i take a ht lead of there the useal rumble as its fireing on 3

but this feels diff feels like fuel are there any fuel filters east to get at ? i am gonna go out and discont bat for a bit see if it will sort this gear box issue out how long should i unplug batt for to reset ecu ?

I think it is for between 5 and 15 minutes.some say 5...some say 15 minutes

Make sure you know your radio code as you will need to input it again

OK the miss at a certain rpm is normally due to the ability for electricity to find a path to earth at a certain frequency of action, as the revs build up the frequency of the spark provision changes therefore the miss occurs after it has passed the vital frequency eg above 3k then the miss is not noticed as the spark still occurs at roughly the right time, a leak doesent kil the spark it can just delay it in the cycle of the engine.

 

If the delay is sufficient it will misfire however at higher revs the delay becomes less as the frequency increases and therefore it appears to run correctly.

 

The low power wiring you have shown in the photographs must be repaired to elimante the problem as for it being fuel problems that would get worse as the revs increase and never show an improvement.

 

Its is most likely that if you run the engine with the bonnet open in the dark you will be able to see the sparks tracking around the top of the engine area.

well thanx for all your help i reset the ecu and the prob has gone drive right on lpg and petol strange maybe i need a new ecu ( any idea of how much one would cost i will get them wires sorted i might run it in fords tomorrow ask there opion still not solved the 4000 rpm gear changes but that intermitant

It's likely just disturbing the wiring under the cover has made it ok at the moment, I'm sure if you don't sort that wiring, it'll be back.

If you're confident at soldering it's easy. Get yourself some heat shrink sleeving, cable, solder and a mug of tea. Open up the loom, cut our the bad section of cable ONE AT A TIME, solder the new one in and sleeve the joint. I did our Scorpio and it took about 50 minutes from start to finish. If you're not happy about doing it yourself take it to a autoelectrician NOT a Ford dealer.

Item circled to the right is a Vapouriser, used to convert lpg from it's liquid form into gas, the item in the center circle appears to be a sensor in either the water line to the vapouriser? cant quite make out where it leads to?

I ran a Vauxhall Vectra (I know I know) on LPG. It was a factory conversion.

 

I had an initially small misfire when working the engine hard between 2300 & 3000RPMn that turned into a power dead spot between 200 - 400RPM.

It went to Vauxhall who couldn't replicate the problem in the workshop but admitted it was faulty on road testing.

 

They tried everything--- hooked up computers, test drove in all conditions, tried the engine hot and cold and then warm (??) but they still couldn't trace the fault.

 

The car stayed in the Vauxhall dealers for a few days until a technical rep from Luton came up to have a look and he diagnosed the Dizzy (gas distributer). It works in much the same way as an old electrical distributer only it sent gas to cylinders rather than electricity.

Anyone who had the pleaseure of owning a 1996 - 1999 Ford Escort XR3i will have had a Bosh Fuel injection system that worked i much the same way too.

 

ANYWAY-- One new Dizzy (solved the problem on it's own), a new eveaporator (type fault so changed even though this one was OK), new HT leads & New plugs (they had been on and off & in/out more times than enough so they were changed) and a full ECU re-boot and the car ran as good as new. The car was out of warrenty but Vauxhall paid for the job lot.

 

Give your local LPG specialist a ring because the Dizzy was a favorite problem on LPG vauxhalls and it may be that on yours too.

The left hand item circled is a butterfly valve thats operated by the LPG ECU. It enables the LPG system to run closed loop and have a lambda sensor adjust the fuelling on LPG. The message relating to the LPG dizzy I don't think are relevant here because looking at the pipework it isn't a multipoint LPG injection system.
